It was a wintry day in 2001, and Acela Express No. 2175 crossed Fort Point Channel Bridge with one-half mile – or less – to go to a departure track in South Station, Boston. Amtrak has many bridges to cross in the days ahead, including funding, finding out how a new boss operates, and if the White House is pulling all the strings concerning the railroad, including its demise.
