France’s TGVs – Train à Grand Vitesse – which literally means “train of great speed, “ changed a nation, and now it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Here, a contemporary trainset, at left, prepares to depart St. Charles Station in Marseille, France in June 2005. At right is an original TGV trainset, but all the older models have been brought up to current standards.
